Jill Halliburton Su: Crime Scene Photos, 911 Audio and Police Videos
Source: Davie Police Department records released in 2026 in response to a Florida public records request filed on Feb. 6, 2026. Sept. 8, 2014 Jill Halliburton Su, 59, was killed at her home in the gated Westridge community in Davie, Florida. She and her husband, Dr. Nan-Yao Su, a University of Florida entomologist and termite expert, had returned from a two-week trip to Malaysia the previous afternoon. She had been awake much of the night and went to bed around 8 a.m. Her husband left for work at about 11:30 a.m., while she was asleep. At about 12:13 p.m., Dr. Nan-Yao Su checked an indoor Dropcam feed from his office. He saw a figure wearing a white shirt and dark pants, with a white towel covering the face, approaching the family-room camera. The feed then went offline. He called their son, Justin Su, 20, who drove home and found his mother. Justin Su told investigators she was in the master-bathroom tub with her face in the water and the water running. He pulled her out and saw that her wrists and ankles were bound. He called 911; the call was received at 12:35 p.m. His father separately called 911 while returning home with a graduate student from his lab. Police arrived at about 12:43 p.m. Responders found her on the bathroom floor. Her wrists were tied with a pink bathrobe sash, and her ankles were bound with a brown electrical extension cord. The autopsy recorded the cause of death as multiple sharp force injuries and the manner as homicide. The glass in a rear door had been smashed inward, although the door remained locked. Investigators treated it as the assumed point of entry. The alarm panel had been torn from the master-bedroom closet wall and left in the bathtub. Both indoor cameras were missing, and the master bedroom had been ransacked. Investigation and court proceedings Police treated Justin Su as an early suspect. Investigators photographed and swabbed him, searched the family car he drove and obtained his phone records. He was never charged, and prosecutors later said he had an alibi. On Sept. 17, 2014, the crime lab reported a DNA database hit to Dayonte Omar Resiles, who was 19 at the time of the killing. His profile was already in the state DNA database. The major DNA profile recovered from the handle of a folding knife found on the front doormat matched his profile. Blood was not indicated on the handle swab, and the file does not identify which knife caused the wounds. Resiles was arrested in Sunrise on Sept. 18, 2014. He asked for a lawyer and said nothing. On July 15, 2016, he escaped from a Broward courtroom; he was recaptured six days later at a West Palm Beach motel. His first trial ended in a mistrial on Dec. 8, 2021, after a juror disowned a manslaughter verdict and the jury subsequently deadlocked. At retrial, he was convicted of first-degree murder on March 18, 2022. After prosecutors dropped the death penalty, he was sentenced to life on May 20, 2022. He is serving life at Martin Correctional Institution. The release contains 911 audio, crime scene photographs and video, police interview-room recordings and the 473-page case file. The replies carry these materials chapter by chapter, with context drawn from the records.

Knives, belt and bindings Ten photographs show the dagger-style knife recovered from the tub, a hunting knife recovered from a bathroom counter, the folding Kershaw on the front doormat, a knotted green belt found inside the front doors, the extension cord and the bathrobe with its sash. The doormat knife's handle carried the major DNA profile matched to Dayonte Omar Resiles, but the file does not identify which knife caused the wounds. The green belt is not identified in the file as a binding used on her.

Resiles: Processing photographs Six photographs document Dayonte Omar Resiles's processing on Sept. 18, 2014, including his clothing, sneakers, jewelry and watch. A sneaker stain initially reacted to a field test, but laboratory testing found blood was not indicated and the DNA was his own.
