In a shocking incident that took place in the early hours of May 30, 2017, in Lincolnwood, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, a 16-year-old girl named Eliza Wasni brutally attacked and killed her Uber driver with a knife and machete. The victim, Grant Nelson, was 34 years old at the time of the attack and was working as an Uber driver to earn extra money.

Wasni, who had stolen the weapons from a Walmart earlier that night, hailed Nelson's Uber for a ride. Shortly into the journey, she began attacking Nelson without provocation. Mortally wounded, Nelson managed to escape the car and sought help at a nearby building where he alerted the building's security. Despite being transported to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

The police, alerted by the security staff who attended to Nelson, found Wasni near the scene of the crime. She was still holding the weapons and was covered in blood. The authorities took her into custody after a brief standoff. This incident was especially notable as it was captured on surveillance footage from the Walmart and the building where Nelson sought help, providing clear evidence of Wasni's actions.

During the investigation, no motive for the attack was determined. Wasni, who was tried as an adult, was charged with first-degree murder. In 2019, she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 27 years in prison.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Wasni is a student at Taft High School and lives with her mother who is a single parent.

Taft High School Principal Mark Grishaber told DNA Info that Wasni was enrolled at his school in February 2017 for nine days. Grishaber said that Wasni’s “case manager” said that the teen shouldn’t have been allowed to enroll and that she and been “in and out of therapeutic hospitals.”

I'm from downstate IL and have Been there a few times myself for weekend trips with the gf and once after my brother graduated Navy basic.

It's like any other place really. Got your good and bad spots. Just gotta know where to go and not to. But never let your guard down regardless.

Personally I wouldn't wanna live there for shit. Too congested, fast paced, "diverse" and expensive for me. I'll take my small, white, extremely low crime town over it any day.

Far more dangerous cities in the us than chicago. I'd have fun there.
