Typhoon Matmo battered southern China over the weekend with violent winds, torrential rainfall, and powerful waves, causing widespread destruction across multiple provinces. The storm made landfall near Xuwen County in Guangdong Province late Saturday night, with maximum sustained winds of up to 151 km/h and gusts well above 180 km/h.
