Puerto Varas Tornado Damages Homes and Downtown
A rare and powerful tornado tore through Puerto Varas in southern Chile on Sunday, May 25, 2025, destroying houses and leaving a wide trail of damage across the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. The tornado struck at about 3:30 p.m. local time. Estimated wind speeds were between 86 and 111 mph.
