Mid-May Rainstorm System Swamps Guangdong and Jiangxi
A powerful, persistent rainstorm system swept across southern China in mid-May 2026, developing into one of the most significant multi-day extreme rainfall events of the year. The system first hit Guangdong Province on May 15, then shifted inland toward Jiangxi Province on May 16. It brought continuous torrential rain, widespread flooding, and rising pressure on rivers, reservoirs, and flood-control infrastructure across multiple regions.
