Massive Waves Hitting an Oil Rig
This is a pretty cool video, shows some really massive waves slamming into an oil rig. If anyone is on that rig, I bet they are getting pretty seasick.

I don't think you would stand a chance of surviving if you happened to fall in, you couldn't pay me enough to go and work on a rig....

Stay away from the edges of that during those waves for sure.

is the oil rig supposed to move like that?

Re: Massive Waves Hitting an Oil Rig
Wondered that myself, so I looked up some diagrams. Seems like on most of them, it's not the legs that keep them in place but some kind of cables. Would explain that one moving.

Re: Massive Waves Hitting an Oil Rig
Yes oil rigs are designed to move to waves and are usually only connected to the sea floor by the piping that goes down to the well head. When in storms they detach from the well head and allow the rig to ride the waves like a normal ship.
