A major winter storm continued dumping snow on Utah early Wednesday, delaying or canceling dozens of Salt Lake City flights and leading most schools in northern Utah to cancel classes.

The National Weather Service reported 2 feet of snow in Tooele by Wednesday morning, with more than 1.5 feet in several places across the Salt Lake Valley. Cars were buried in snow at the park-and-ride lot at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon, and ski bus services were seeing significant delays.

The Utah Department of Transportation urged drivers to stay off the roads if possible, with major delays still being reported across Utah because of weather-related crashes and inclement weather. U.S. 40 between Roosevelt and Vernal was closed due to whiteout and slick conditions.

Northbound I-15 was also closed midday near Nephi after a semitruck rollover blocked three lanes. Multiple other roads were temporarily closed due to crashes or avalanche danger. Troopers responded to 230 crashes on Utah highways and freeways between midnight and Wednesday afternoon.

Snow was expected to ease across the state, but another system was expected Thursday into Friday, with maybe another arriving by early next week.
