Kobe-Osaka Highway Toppled by the 1995 Hanshin Earthquake
The Kobe-Osaka highway lay toppled onto its side in eastern Kobe after the Great Hanshin Earthquake on January 17, 1995. The earthquake struck at 5:46 a.m. and killed more than 5,500 people. Most deaths occurred in collapsing homes or in fires that followed.  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·
