Heavy Snowfall Cuts Off Villages in Baramulla

Heavy snowfall in Baramulla district in northern Kashmir disconnected dozens of villages upstream from the district headquarters on Wednesday. The affected areas include about a dozen villages in Uri and several villages in Upper Rafiabad.

Heavy snow has fallen in the upper reaches of Uri in recent days, and heavy snow was reported in Rafiabad on Wednesday. Traffic was brought to a halt for a second day in a row in the affected villages.

The plains saw moderate snowfall, while the upper reaches of Rafiabad had heavier snow that affected normal life. More than a foot of fresh snow fell in Tangmarg on Wednesday.

Tourist traffic has increased in the region, especially in Gulmarg, after heavy snowfall over the past two days.
