Sapporo and surrounding areas in Hokkaido are seeing exceptionally heavy snowfall as a powerful winter storm continues to affect northern Japan.

Streets and cars in Sapporo are covered by deep snow, with snow depths reported at levels not seen in more than two decades. Authorities have issued heightened warnings, and transportation and daily life have been widely disrupted.
