Parts of California's Sierra Nevada picked up one to three feet of new snow over the weekend as storms continued across the state.

Roads buckled and snow-bound visitors walked through tall banks of snow. In Mammoth Lakes, snowfall has passed the record high, with snow piled up over second-story windows and making homes look like igloos.

The Tahoe region helped boost California's snow totals over the past few days. Seventy inches was reported, and 3 to 5 feet of mountain snow can happen with a strong atmospheric river.

The Sierra Avalanche Center listed considerable avalanche danger in the area. Travel conditions were expected to stay difficult through the weekend, with the next snow-packed storm moving in Friday morning and more systems forecast back-to-back into early next week.
