Floodings in Mexico Sweeping Away Vehicles Etc.
Heavy rains hit Santa María del Oro, Durango, on Thursday afternoon, causing the Ojo de Agua and Arroyo del Agua streams to overflow their banks, sweeping away at least 10 vehicles, food stalls, and farm animals. The storm lasted approximately 40 minutes and caused damage primarily to areas near the riverbed. No injuries or human losses were reported, despite the intensity of the floodwaters and the damage observed to urban and rural infrastructure. Municipal Civil Protection agencies and local police carried out protective measures in areas considered high risk. After 8:30 p.m., the water level began to recede, but patrols remained in place on highways and roads due to reports of landslides. In addition to Santa María del Oro, rain was recorded in other municipalities in northern Durango, such as Tepehuanes, where no major damage was reported. The state coordinator explained that two low-pressure systems located in the Pacific could evolve into tropical storms in the coming hours, increasing the likelihood of heavy rains in the state. The forecast indicates that weather conditions similar to those on Thursday could be repeated, with intermittent light rain in some areas and the possibility of heavy rainfall in others. He continued to urge the public to stay informed through official channels and avoid traveling through risk areas, especially near bodies of water or roads susceptible to landslides. |
