Beginning on the night of June 18, 2025, torrential rainstorms swept across western Hunan Province.

A giant dam discharge was reported to have triggered massive flooding, with multiple cities underwater in Hunan.

The flooding was described as one of the most severe flood disasters in recent memory. Longshan County in the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was among the hardest-hit areas.
