I will be honest- the first thing that popped into my head when I read about this in the CNN breaking news report was " I hope Gatagato's alright" So, gata, very glad you didn't get crushed!  But what an awful situation. I can't imagine what it would feel like digging through all that for missing loved ones...even the families lucky enough to make it out in one piece are pretty much destitute. What a mess  |

When those small towns were built quakes weren't factored into the planning, I bet plenty were built with no regulations being adhered to at all.  |

267 dead now. Amongst them 3 Britons. Arquata del Tronto 49. Accumoli 11. Amatrice 207. At least 215 people and numerous animals were saved from the rubble by 5000 rescuers. More than 900 aftershocks ranging between magnitude 4.1 and 4.7. were reported. A girl who endured nearly 17 hours in the rubble has undergone surgery and is doing well. |

the first building regulations for quake casualty prevention were from 1971. Somewhere around 2007 came some stricter rules.
