Dyatlov Pass Incident: 1959 Hiker and Body Recovery Photos, Urals, USSR

Nine ski hikers led by Igor Dyatlov died on Kholat Syakhl in the northern Ural Mountains of the Soviet Union on the night of February 1-2, 1959. The Ural Polytechnic Institute group had been heading toward Otorten. They left their tent, which had been cut open, and died outside it.

The search began February 20. Searchers found the collapsed, partly buried tent on February 26 and recovered five bodies near the tent and a cedar tree. The remaining four were found in a ravine on May 4, some with severe chest or skull injuries. Surviving archive photographs document the hikers during the journey, the tent as searchers found it and the body recoveries.

The original inquest closed in May 1959, attributing the deaths to a "compelling natural force" and identifying no guilty party. The investigation was reopened in 2019. On July 11, 2020, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office announced its conclusion that an avalanche had killed the group.

Maybe its two deadly occurrances at once? First begins as a drunken brawl which results in someone's death, then when the party is divided, they encounter a hungry bear that is desperate from both hunger and the fact its still not hibernating as it should.

Re: Dyatlov Pass Incident: 1959 Hiker and Body Recovery Photos, Urals, USSR

I read somewhere there was also a theory involving a night of drinking, and a small fire that broke out in the tent (their heat source). In their drunken stupor they were unable to make a new fire. They were found separated into groups because the men sought to find firewood.?? Seems the most plausible

This guy researched it thoroughly and i go with his explanation about the cutting the tent, radioactive clothing and the major bodily trauma on some of them.

It’s still doesn’t explain precise damage on skull, face and removal of organs in surgical way. There are pictures from post mortem section or at least 4 of them. When I encountered this topic in 2001 in some russian website stories ,I copied them on a cd. I will try to find them tomorrow and post. How their bodies received similar to car crash treatment? No fur or claws signs.
