Cyclone Batsirai Struck Eastern Madagascar
Cyclone Batsirai struck Madagascar's eastern region on Saturday, February 5, bringing strong winds and heavy rain and destroying houses. It was the second storm to hit the island nation in a few weeks. Local authorities warned of winds up to 250 kilometers per hour and waves as high as 15 meters. Authorities said it could be the worst cyclone to hit the island in 17 years, with about 600,000 people affected in total.
