Coast Guard Rescue of HMS Bounty During Hurricane Katrina
This is video from the Coast Guard rescue of a replica of the HMS Bounty which went down during Hurricane Katrina. Fourteen people were rescued, one is known to be dead, and one person is listed as still missing.

I understand that they were pumping 3000 gallons of water an hour out of the replica Bounty during the voyage, and eventually she started leaking so badly they could not keep up with the water coming in. I also understand the captain of the Bounty tried to duck around Katrina, but wound up going the wrong direction (Or the hurricane switched course) and wound up right in it's path. One woman died (Her body was recovered). The captain was lost, died, and his body never was found. The NTSB placed most of the blame on the captain, and said the ship should never have been at sea, storm or no storm. I guess they got paid for showing the ship at different nautical events, and the captain felt they needed the money for repairs too badly to miss the event. Sad story.

Well it says 2012 on their camera footage so I don't think that's Hurricane Katrina Katrina happened back in 2004  |

It says October 29th 2012 on the side of their camera footage unless that's a mistake but I doubt it this is not Hurricane Katrina footage

When I was a teenager I spent some time on that ship in Fall River, MA, by the way. On halloween they would put on a really sick haunted house onboard. I dressed as a ghost pirate, if I recall. Some good times were had.  Too bad about the how it all went down in the end.
