Re: Car Sitting in California Drought Area
The old saying was, "If all the murdered bodies stood up in the Mojave Desert, it would look like a forest." That particular piece of paradise was used (and still is) by everyone from the mob, street gangs, serial killers, pimps, old time police, Feds, and God knows who else to plant bodies (and other items) so that they would never be found. A lot of depression era migrants died along that road as well...remember "Remember Grapes Of Wrath"? There's been a lot of really bad things happen in that desert.

Re: Car Sitting in California Drought Area
I'm not sure if the info would be in one place. I was a cop in Southern California for almost 30 years and it was common knowledge that the Mojave Desert was a burial ground. They've been planting dead folks there since at least the latter part of the 19th century. The West Coast Mob was especially fond of the Mojave both for it closeness to Los Angeles and Los Vegas and abject remote locations to bury bodies and other illegal items. There are stories of buried stolen money, machine guns, gambling devices, cars, cold war weapons caches, Spanish gold, train/bank robbery gold, US Mint printing plates, etc. Everyone from the Western US from cops to crooks knows about the Mojave. I'm not sure if there have been any books on the mysteries of the Mojave though, especially regarding body dumping. There might be books on the Great Depression and Dust Bowl migrations from the mid west that discusses the thousands of deaths that happened while folks were making their way to California. Not at all uncommon for either real young and real old folks to die and be buried near the main roads during the late 1920's and 30's. |

Re: Car Sitting in California Drought Area
Fun fact: California's drought is a direct result of environmentalist policies. 50% of the water that California gets is diverted for environmental project such as saving the delta smelt and other stupid crap. 40% of the water is used by farmers. You may have heard that farmers use 80% of the water. But that's only if you don't take into account the water diverted for environmentalist projects. Also, environmentalists oppose new water storage projects (such as dams and the creation of new reservoir areas), so we do not capture as much runoff water as we could (we depend on snow melt for most of our reservoir content). Thus it just runs off into the ocean. |
