Barney Balloon Hits Lamppost at 1997 Thanksgiving Parade
During the 1997 Thanksgiving Day Parade, high winds drove the Barney balloon into a streetlamp. The balloon was brought down and torn open. Falling debris from the lamp post struck a woman, who was in a coma for a month.
