Incredible video captures the moment a skier is engulfed in an avalanche as he tears down a mountain in British Columbia, Canada.

Chris Bilbao from Portland, Oregon, US was gliding down the slopes when the wave of snow broke off.

The terrifying footage shows Chris — who was wearing a "chest-cam" camera — screaming "avalanche" before being covered by tons of snow.

He is thrown around like a rag-doll in the horror ordeal until he finally comes to a rest at the bottom of the mountain.

He then lay buried under the snow for a harrowing 5 minutes not knowing if he would survive.

But miraculously his pals managed to find him and desperately dug him out.

Chris can be heard shouting with joy as he is rescued during the recent incident.

Later he described the experience as "like being in an ocean".

That's funny, because I was always taught that when you're in an avalanche you have to basically swim on top of the snow like it's water so you don't get buried
