On Friday, March 10, atmospheric rivers brought heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across California. Rivers and creeks swelled, flooding several major highways and small rural communities.

In Santa Cruz County, a rain-swollen creek destroyed part of Main Street in Soquel, a town of 10,000 people, isolating several neighborhoods.

In central California, the Tule River overflowed its banks and flooded several homes. Videos posted on social media showed homes and cars under a few feet of water, and at least one road washed out by the rushing river in Springville.

Flash floods were also reported in Kernville, in Kern County. Emergency officials warned people to stay off the roads if they can and to heed flash flood warnings.

Several nearby public parks, including Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, were closed to visitors because of the ongoing heavy rain.

Another atmospheric river was already forecast for early next week. A state climatologist said a third appeared to be taking shape over the Pacific, and possibly a fourth.
