Re: Amazing Video of Skyscraper Swaying During Earthquake in Japan (11 March 2011)
I've been in a high-rise building during an earthquake. During the actual shaking, other than the noise, you couldn't really tell the building was shaking unless you stood up. It was on the overnight shift, so there were very few people about. After the shaking stopped, my manager and I walked down several dozen flights of stairs to get out of the building. That felt weird because the building was still swaying back and forth, so every new step down was just slightly off-balance because of the building moving while we descended. We had an even bigger earthquake years later, but I was driving to work at the time of it. At the time of the quake, it only felt like I'd changed lanes through the heavily tire-rutted concrete road surface, even though I'd stayed in the same lane the entire time; odd, but not entirely disconcerting. It wasn't until I got to work and saw everyone outside (and later, all the shit in my office thrown about) that I realized we'd had 7-ish earthquake take place. |
