7.6 Earthquake Off Japan Prompts Tsunami Warning
A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck off the northeastern coast of Japan late on 8 December 2025. The shaking was powerful in Aomori and set off widespread alarm across the country. A tsunami warning was issued for coastal regions extending from Hokkaido through Aomori and down toward the Pacific-facing areas of the Tohoku region.
