Vince Neal's Jet Skids Off Runway at SDL 1 dead
Please excuse the stupid TV reporters commentary. It was a Lear 35. Reportedly the landing gear failed after landing causing the runway excursion to the left. I don't think it's definitively shown or known whether the landing gear failure caused the runway excursion or a runway excursion after landing caused the failure which is certainly possible. PHOENIX — One person died and three others were injured after a plane reportedly belonging to a Mötley Crüe band member crashed on the runway at Scottsdale Airport on Monday afternoon. Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil was the owner of the plane and it is unclear if Neil was involved in the crash, according to ABC15. How did the Scottsdale Airport plane crash happen? The incident occurred at 2:39 p.m. when a midsize business jet that arrived from Austin collided with another jet that was parked on private property, Scottsdale Fire spokesman Dave Folio said during a press conference. The landing gear failed upon arrival and video from ABC15 shows the plane crashing into the second jet. Two people were taken to a hospital in critical condition while another person was also hospitalized in stable condition, Folio said. The person who died, whose identity has not been released, was still in the plane as of 6 p.m. Another passenger refused treatment, Folio added. |

I tried zooming in and cropping a little but I'm no video master maybe someone smarter than me can find a way to zoom in and track the plane through the whole shot.

Aircraft was N81VN, a 1989 Learjet 35A with Garrett TFE731 engines and registered to "Chromed in Hollywood, Inc". The ADSBExchange ADS-B data for the landing is available via this link (screenshot attached to post): https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao...10&trackLabels KSDL METAR at the time: METAR KSDL 102053Z 25006KT 10SM CLR 23/M03 A2993 RMK AO2 SLP121 T02331033 58031 METAR KSDL 102153Z 10SM CLR 24/M06 A2991 RMK AO2 SLP112 T02391061 Tower audio from 2130Z (from LiveATC) is attached. Landing clearance given at +07:15, hit hits the (turbo)fan at +08:22. |

Additional pictures. Looks like Neal lost a wheel. |

Re: Vince Neal's Jet Skids Off Runway at SDL 1 dead
In the top closeup picture, the brown beam laying on the top of the fuselage is one of the cabin armrests, that run along the inside, just below the window line. Seeing earlier pics of the aircraft pressed together, I assumed they would not be able to use the cabin door, and the top picture confirms it is still in position, and probably jammed closed. They are having to do all the recovery through the emer exit, which is a small oval on the R/H side of the fuselage. They will have to crawl through that. I assume the armrest came loose and was obstructing the aisle. The last I heard, the body was still in the cockpit. They will probably have to cut the cockpit apart from outside, to get the pilot out. I assume, with him being on the L/H side of the cockpit, that he is the one who was killed in the impact. The impact was VERY heavy, with the damage shown. There are also forward cabinets directly behind the pilot's seat, and directly behind the co-pilot's seat, so those are probably collapsed as well. I'm willing to bet that both windshields are still intact, so the guy is probably jammed into his seat, and the windshield is jammed down on top of his body. The windshield CANNOT be cut, so the only alternative is to start excavating the supporting structure until they can pull it out of the way and actually get to the pilot. This has been a REALLY BAD week for Learjets. ![]() |

Re: Vince Neal's Jet Skids Off Runway at SDL 1 dead
Have you ever heard of a landing gear collapse that wasn't first precipitated by a gear unsafe warning or very hard touchdown?
