Video From The Sknyliv Air Show Disaster Which Killed 77 in Ukraine
In a horrific turn of events, the Sknyliv airfield near Lviv, Ukraine, became the site of one of the deadliest air show disasters in history on July 27, 2002, when a Ukrainian Air Force Sukhoi Su-27 fighter jet crashed during an aerobatic performance, claiming the lives of 77 people, including 28 children, and injuring over 500 others. The tragedy unfolded during an aerobatics demonstration at the Sknyliv air show. The aircraft, a highly maneuverable Sukhoi Su-27, piloted by Volodymyr Toponar and co-piloted by Yuriy Yegorov, lost control during a low-altitude rolling maneuver. The jet plummeted into a densely populated spectator area, resulting in a catastrophic impact. Eyewitness accounts described a scene of chaos and devastation as the aircraft disintegrated upon impact, with debris scattering amongst the crowd. Rescue and emergency services quickly responded to the disaster, though the high number of casualties overwhelmed the local medical facilities. An investigation into the crash revealed that the pilots, Toponar and Yegorov, failed to comply with orders and violated flight rules, leading to the disaster. Both pilots were subsequently tried and convicted, receiving prison sentences. The fallout from the investigation also saw several high-ranking military officials, including the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, facing charges and convictions for their roles in the tragedy. In the wake of the disaster, the Sknyliv air show incident has become a case study in the importance of stringent safety measures and regulations at air shows. It prompted a reevaluation of safety protocols, not only in Ukraine but globally, emphasizing the need for rigorous standards to protect both performers and spectators in such high-risk events.  |

The Flanker is a badass aircraft. More maneuverable than the Tomcat. But, it is a helluva piece of machinery to master. one crashed just last week.

Is it? Where's the link to the video? Hell, I know where it is but not going to cry about it. It's old but not a bad idea to revisit. Many users don't go thru every video on the list. The other one showed more gore and was much better too.

This horrific accident is hard to forget. What stick with me the most i the torso of a dead child.
