United Airlines Flight 169 Hits a Bakery Truck on New Jersey Turnpike
A United Airlines flight struck a Schmidt Bakery truck while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport. United Airlines Flight 169, arriving from Venice, Italy, was on its final approach to Runway 29 when it came in unusually low over the New Jersey Turnpike. The aircraft's wheel struck the driver’s side window of a bakery truck traveling northbound on the highway. The plane also reportedly hit a light pole along the Turnpike. The truck driver sustained minor cuts from shattered glass and was taken to a hospital for treatment. No injuries were reported among the 221 passengers and 10 crew members on board the aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration and the Port Authority are investigating the incident. Initial statements from United and the FAA only mentioned contact with a light pole, but subsequent reports and video evidence confirmed the collision with the bakery truck. |

Maybe the pilot found out who was banging his spouse. Taking out the windshield seems to be a Brazilian tradition.  |

New surveillance footage has revealed just how close United Airlines Flight 169 came to disaster while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, showing the Boeing 767-400ER skimming just feet above traffic before clipping a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike. The newly surfaced video, shows the aircraft crossing Interstate 95 at more than 160mph with its landing gear visibly striking the roofline of an H&S Bakery truck. |

It was very gusty. When wind speed changes significantly the pilot needs to adjust throttle/pitch to stay on glide slope. It is not an issue with visibility.
