Two Skydiving Planes Collide in Mid Air Over Superior, Wisconsin
In a remarkable incident of aviation survival, nine skydivers and two pilots emerged unscathed from a mid-air collision at 12,000 feet above the Wisconsin-Minnesota border. The event, which involved two planes owned by Skydive Superior, unfolded when the aircraft, flying in close proximity, collided. Four skydivers on the lead plane were preparing to jump in formation, while five were on the trailing plane. The collision dislodged the skydivers ready to jump, and the others quickly followed, parachuting safely to the ground. The pilot of the lead plane, which was engulfed in flames and began to disintegrate, ejected using an emergency parachute. The other plane managed a safe landing. Every skydiver was equipped with a steerable parachute, allowing them to land as intended before the crash. All involved were experienced skydivers, including several instructors. Mike Robinson, one of the instructors, recounted the experience of falling debris from the destroyed plane during their descent, noting that everyone managed to avoid it successfully. The pilot of the lead plane sustained the most serious injuries, being visibly bloodied and possibly requiring stitches, but was not critically hurt.

Re: Two Skydiving Planes Collide in Mid Air Over Superior, Wisconsin
All the skydivers opened their chutes and landed safely; the pilot of the first plane got out alive, too, using his emergency parachute. All that was left was for Blake Wedan to land the second plane, which he did, safely, even though there was damage to the propeller and wing. found that on a news site.... |
