Television Helicopter Crashes Killing The Pilot
On February 10, 2010, a dramatic incident unfolded in Brazil as a TV helicopter lost control, and a competing helicopter captured the entire sequence of events while rushing to assist. The helicopter belonged to Record TV and was perilously close to crashing onto a busy highway in Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest city. Fortunately, before the tragic outcome, the pilot managed to veer away from the morning rush hour traffic, although the cameraman on board suffered severe injuries. The helicopter was in the midst of covering a bank robbery when the pilot sent out a distress signal, which was heard by a competing helicopter from Globo TV. The pilot from Globo TV promptly landed at the crash site and took action by shutting off the fuel pump of the damaged helicopter to prevent a potential explosion. As for the official cause of the crash, there is no official information available at this time. However, in the distress message he sent, the deceased pilot mentioned an issue with the tail of his helicopter. |

Re: Television Helicopter Crashes Killing The Pilot
Lost tail rotor. When that happens even auto rotate can't help you. We had it happen in Kodiak, Alaska and were fortunate that we had just gotten airborne. Cuts, bruise, stuff like that. The pilot did a great job of finding a green strip...Thank you for the post.
