Superjet 100 Emergency Landing at Moscow Kills 41
On May 5, 2019, a Sukhoi Superjet 100 carrying 78 people made an emergency landing at Moscow shortly after departing for Murmansk. The aircraft burst into flames, killing 41 people. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft entered a thunderstorm and was struck by lightning. Several systems, including the autopilot and one radio, were disabled. The aircraft's controls reverted to direct law, requiring full manual control inputs.
