Student Pilot Dies After Piper PA-34 Clips Powerlines Near Miami

Tuesday morning witnessed a tragic aviation accident in Miramar, where a student pilot perished in a devastating crash. The incident involved a Piper PA-34 aircraft, which had departed from North Perry Airport around 9 a.m., as reported by the FAA.

The pilot, in communication with air traffic control, indicated an attempt to return to the airport due to mechanical issues. However, the aircraft failed to reach the airport and instead aimed for an emergency landing on Pembroke Road, according to Miramar police spokesperson Tania Rues.

The pilot, 25-year-old M.D.S. from Miramar, encountered a critical situation when the plane struck a power line in Harbor Cove during the attempted road landing. Subsequently, the aircraft crashed near a shopping area at the intersection of Pembroke Road and Hiatus Road, where it was consumed by fire.

Miramar police reported that two individuals were on board: the student pilot M.D.S., who tragically lost his life, and a flight instructor, who sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.

A bystander on the ground also suffered injuries from the debris, receiving treatment at the scene from Miramar Fire-Rescue.

Area residents said as the pilot tried to land, the plane flew dangerously low over one neighborhood.

They do know how planes land, even during emergencies, right?

This air port was a good 5 miles from the crash site. He was way too low on his approach.

Funny enough this is only a block or two from the site of the ups truck shooting.
