A tragic air crash occurred in Sri Lanka's tea-growing, mountainous region on Friday, January 3, resulting in the deaths of all four crew members aboard. The incident involved a Y-12 turboprop aircraft of the Sri Lankan Air Force, marking the country's worst air crash since December 2014.

The Chinese-built aircraft had departed from the southern airbase of Wirawila, en route to Ratmalana, located south of the capital city, Colombo.
