Small Plane Crashed Madeleine Islands
Tragedy struck on Tuesday when a plane crash claimed the lives of prominent political commentator and former Liberal federal cabinet minister, Jean Lapierre, along with his wife, sister, and two brothers, as well as two crew members. The accident occurred in challenging conditions, with fog and freezing rain engulfing the Îles-de-la-Madeleine in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The victims of the crash, whose names were released by the Quebec coroner's office late Tuesday evening, include: Jean Lapierre. Nicole Beaulieu, Lapierre's wife. Martine Lapierre. Marc Lapierre. Louis Lapierre. Pascal Gosselin, a crew member. Fabrice Labourel, another crew member. The Lapierre family was en route to the funeral of Jean Lapierre's father, who had passed away last Friday at the age of 83. The plane went down as it approached an airfield near Havre-aux-Maisons at approximately 11:40 a.m. AT, a few kilometers from the airport. Witnesses described the crash scene, with Jules Deslauriers recounting seeing the plane's wreckage broken into three parts. Diane Vigneault, another witness, observed the plane descending extremely low and immediately raised the alarm. Earlier in the day, some commercial flights had been canceled due to heavy fog. The plane involved in the crash was privately owned and was identified as an American-registered 1982 Mitsubishi MU-2B-60 with the tail number N246W. It had taken off from St. Hubert Airport on Montreal's South Shore at 9:30 a.m. ET. Scott Sobel, a spokesman for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, stated that the company was sending investigators to the crash site to collaborate with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada in determining the cause. Sobel emphasized the aircraft's strong safety record in the past eight years and the requirement for MU-2 pilots to maintain current and up-to-date training. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the investigation into the crash, with a ministerial observer appointed to collaborate on the inquiry. |

Re: Small Plane Crashed Madeleine Islands
The airplane looks pretty intact, for all those deaths. Wonder if they were not all wearing their seat belts........
