Re: Several Blacks Killed In a Plane Crash
More than a dozen people are dead after a plane crashed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo last week, military officials said. In a statement translated from French to English, the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) confirmed that 14 people died, including two senior military officials, as their aircraft was returning to the capital city, Kinshasa, from southwestern Kikwit on Friday, Sept. 25. Lieutenant General Joseph Mutombo Katalayi Tiende, first president of the High Military Court, and Lieutenant General Lucien René Likulia Bakumi, auditor general of the Armed Forces, were among those who died. “In addition to the two general officers, twelve members of the delegation as well as the crew members also lost their lives in this accident,” the statement said. “The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo mourn the loss of these senior military magistrates, who dedicated their entire careers—with honor, dedication, and determination—to the service of the Republic,” the agency continued. The others who died in the crash were not identified in the statement. Members of the Congolese military have been fighting against rebel groups, including the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group in the eastern region since last year. |
