Plane Crashing Into The Crowd at Reno Air Races
On September 16, 2011, a tragic accident occurred at the Reno Air Races in Reno, Nevada. The crash involved "The Galloping Ghost," a highly modified North American P-51D Mustang racing aircraft. The pilot, James K. "Jimmy" Leeward, lost control of the aircraft, which then crashed into spectators. This horrific incident resulted in the death of the pilot and ten people on the ground, with 69 others injured. It stands as the third-deadliest airshow disaster in U.S. history. The investigation revealed that mechanical failure of a trim tab led to the loss of control of the aircraft. This event highlighted the potential risks associated with air races and the importance of stringent safety measures in aviation events.

Re: Plane Crashing Into The Crowd at Reno Air Races
Too bad...not many WWII vintage P-51 Mustangs left in flying condition. Must have been at an air show. They race P-51's and I bet something happened during the race...ouchie.
