A picturesque flight turned into a watery mishap for a pilot in New Zealand on Friday. Dennis Horn found himself in a predicament when an engine issue forced him to execute an emergency landing on a beach at Martins Bay, approximately 43 miles north of the capital city, Auckland. "Essentially, the engine stopped, which is the last thing a pilot wants to hear, especially with only one engine," Horn recounted to New Zealand's TVNZ. The culprit behind the engine trouble was a blocked fuel valve on the single-engine Jabiru microlight aircraft. After making necessary repairs, the plane roared back to life. However, things took an unexpected turn when Horn attempted to take off from the beach, resulting in a crash into the surf. The drag from the water caused the plane to flip into the sea. A witness at the scene reported, "Everyone on the beach ran toward him because we were concerned he might have suffered a medical emergency or something." Despite the hundreds of people present on the beach, fortunately, no one sustained injuries in the incident. |
