Plane Crashed into NYC Building Killing Yankee Pitcher Cory Lidle
Cory Lidle, a pitcher for the New York Yankees, died tragically on October 11, 2006, in a plane crash in New York City. He was 34 years old. The crash occurred when the small aircraft he was piloting, a Cirrus SR20, collided with the Belaire Apartments on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Lidle, who had been a Major League Baseball player since 1997, was an experienced pilot. He and his flight instructor, Tyler Stanger, were the only occupants of the plane. Both Lidle and Stanger perished in the accident. The crash also caused damage to the building and minor injuries to some residents. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) conducted an investigation into the crash. The report concluded that the probable cause of the accident was the pilots' inadequate planning and decision-making, which led to their failure to maintain clearance from the building. Contributing factors included the strong tailwind and the pilots' lack of experience flying in the local airspace. |

how do you not see a fucking building, I'm going to guess "Pilot Error" is going to be the cause of this one.

From what they were saying last night,he was taking a last sightseeing tour before heading home to California. He was trying to make a sharp turn and head back up the river while trying to avoid La Guardia's airspace. They said at the angle he was turning and the speed he was going, they plane more than likely would have stalled

Yeah,he was just getting ready to head back home to California.Oddly enough,we were all being told on TV that he was killed in the crash, and the whole time his wife and son were on a commercial flight to California and werent notified yet:( He didnt have near the experience that they thought. He only had about 44 hours of flying on his own. |
