Re: Pilots Survive Helicopter Crash In Afghanistan

Good video, thanks John.
Nobody died but two ISAF service members were injured.

Officials confirm Apache helicopter crash video is real
A YouTube video that depicts a helicopter crash in Afghanistan is going viral on the Web. According to several media reports, the crash appears to be real and is said to have occurred last month.
According to Stars and Stripes, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Wed. the crash involving an AH-64 Army helicopter occurred on Feb. 6 in the Paktika province in Afghanistan.
An eyewitness to the crash took a video, which was posted on YouTube a day ago and already has over 87,000 views. It was also posted on Military.com several days ago.
ABC News reported there is speculation the pilot was 'showing off' for people watching.
The 38-second long video shows the helicopter almost clipping a building with what looks like its tail wheel, and you can hear shouts of shock on the footage from those individuals present on the ground. The footage then shows the Apache helicopter pulling back up, gaining altitude, but then it swings back and turns 180 degrees and pancakes onto the snowy ground. After an extensive slide across the snowy terrain, the aircraft appears to lift off and tumble back to the ground.
Officials are investigating to see who filmed and posted the video. Stars and Stripes reported an official statement said, “Fortunately, no one on the ground was injured, and the members of the air crew survived. U.S. Army officials are conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.”
The YouTube description under the video says, "AH-64 Apache helicopter crash in Sharana, Afghanistan. The pilot was executing a maneuver known as "return to target". No one on the ground was killed and both pilots survived, possible criminal charges were laid."
Rumors about the potential criminal charges, are at this point, rumors.
The Toronto Star reported one YouTube commenter said, “To execute the manoeuvre correctly the pilot had to speed up to create more vertical lift. But criminal charges, really? That seems a bit extreme.”
Military officials reportedly would not confirm whether or not the pilots would face criminal charges.

Re: Pilots Survive Helicopter Crash In Afghanistan

the air is so thin there that the lift is affected greatly.. Depending upon where the gust come up, wind, temp and other variables surely would make that hard to fly at that altitude.. Just sayin'

Re: Pilots Survive Helicopter Crash In Afghanistan

I see no issue with practicing necessary maneuvers, however it is simply irresponsible to do it that close to people. He's lucky as shit he didn't kill anyone.

Re: Pilots Survive Helicopter Crash In Afghanistan

What a dumb fuck. Almost kill several fellow soldiers, your co-pilot, and yourself, and wreck a multi-million dollar machine, all just to show off.

Way to end your career.

Re: Pilots Survive Helicopter Crash In Afghanistan

absolutely they should 'face criminal charges'- they are fucking around hot-dogging with expensive assets and destroying them, and putting people and buildings at grave risk. fuck em.
