Pilot Gabriele Orlandi Killed When His Eurofighter Crashes into the Sea
In a tragic incident today, an Italian Eurofighter combat aircraft crashed into the sea during the Terracina Air Show, leading to the immediate interruption and subsequent cancellation of the event. The disturbing footage available shows Captain Gabriele Orlandi, the Demo Pilot hailing from the Reparto Sperimentale Volo, in the final moments of his aerial performance as he attempted to complete a vertical loop. Tragically, during the closing phase of the maneuver, the aircraft struck the water surface, resulting in the loss of Captain Orlandi's life. It appears that the aircraft encountered difficulties in regaining altitude, suggesting a possible engine power loss. The exact cause of this devastating accident remains shrouded in mystery and is currently under thorough investigation. This unfortunate incident marked the conclusion of the Italian Eurofighter Typhoon's participation in the 2017 aerobatic season. |

Re: Pilot Gabriele Orlandi Killed When His Eurofighter Crashes into the Sea
"The aircraft failed to resume altitude for what seems to be an engine power loss. The cause of the accident is under investigation and still unknown." Doesn't appear to be any problem with the aircraft. IMO, a misjudgment in altitude, and not pulling out of the loop. |
