Pilot Fails to Stop Plane Crashing into a Pile of Snow at French Ski Resort

Spectators at the renowned French ski resort of Courchevel were witnesses to an unfortunate incident as a pilot struggled to bring his plane to a halt during landing, resulting in a collision with a snowbank.

The video footage captures a Piper PA-46 aircraft veering off the designated landing area and subsequently colliding with a nearby snowbank.

Reports indicate that the plane was carrying five passengers, as stated by local media. Four of the individuals sustained injuries and were promptly attended to at a nearby medical facility. Tragically, one young woman was reported to have sustained serious injuries.

In recent times, there have been multiple incidents involving small Piper aircraft. One notable incident involved a Piper Malibu plane, which was carrying Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala and his pilot, and tragically crashed during their journey from Nantes, France, to Cardiff on January 21.

That is a REALLY bad runway. It looks like it is built on the side of a hill, rolls over the top of the hill, and then down to the snowbank. Runways are supposed to be level within about 10-15 feet over a 3000 ft. length.

Ya, most of your stopping would need to occur before the downhill.

Re: Pilot Fails to Stop Plane Crashing into a Pile of Snow at French Ski Resort

I saw the 2nd video first and agreed but watch the 1st one. This guy had plenty of real estate to stop way before the wall of snow. I would agree with durt, that looks about right.
