Pictures From Eastern Airlines Flight 401 Crash in the Everglades
Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 crashed in the Florida Everglades on the night of December 29, 1972. This event marked the first crash of a wide-body aircraft and one of the deadliest in the United States at the time. The Lockheed L-1011 Tristar, en route from New York's JFK Airport to Miami International Airport, was carrying 163 passengers and 13 crew members. As the aircraft approached Miami, the crew became concerned with a malfunctioning landing gear indicator light and decided to abort the landing to troubleshoot the issue. While the flight crew was distracted, the aircraft inadvertently descended and crashed into the Everglades. Of the 176 people on board, 101 lost their lives, including the pilot and two flight engineers. The remaining 75 passengers and crew members survived, though many sustained injuries. The crash occurred in a remote, swampy area, complicating rescue efforts and adding to the challenges faced by first responders. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation into the crash revealed that the tragedy was due to pilot error, compounded by a lack of proper communication and coordination among the crew. The focus on the malfunctioning indicator light led to a failure to monitor the plane's altitude adequately. |

Looks like someone's mother was needed to tell them to stop playing with the dashboard and watch the damn road!

Re: Pictures From Eastern Airlines Flight 401 Crash in the Everglades
There were people with broken arms laying face down in the water with the seats still strapped to them.......luckily a guy on an airboat was driving by, and he managed to save a bunch of the people by turning the seats over so they didn't drown. They had a hard time getting emergency services to them, since they were in the middle of a swamp. This is the "Flight 401" that they always talk about the ghosts of the crew appearing from. |

It's well known they salvaged parts from this aircraft and the planes they used them on had the ghosts of the flight crew appear on them..They even wrote a book and made a movie about it starring Ernest Borgnine..

I'm sorry for bumping an old thread, but what is this? I'm not the only one seeing this right? Or is this an art piece somewhere dedicated to the deceased? |
