I meant to say "Why didn't they cutoff engine two? Pilots are trained for that scenario. They can cutoff one and fly using the other. Aviation experts have pointed this out.  |

the DC-10 that left the metal strip took off only 5 minutes before Concorde did. Concorde was a prestige project, which started of in a time of 2 $ oil. |

The Concorde had the safest flight record in aviation. It's sad they grounded the planes after this tragedy rather than update the fleet. I flew Concorde in the early '90s. They were beautiful planes.

It wasn't the engine that caught fire. It was a piece of debris that struck the underside of the wing and punctured the fuel tank.
