Picture From Aloha Airlines Flight 243

In a remarkable incident of resilience and aviation safety, Aloha Airlines Flight 243 made an emergency landing after experiencing a catastrophic structural failure mid-flight. The incident occurred on April 28, 1988, during a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Hilo to Honolulu in Hawaii.

Flight 243, a Boeing 737-297, was cruising at an altitude of 24,000 feet when an 18-foot section of the fuselage ruptured, creating a massive hole in the cabin. The dramatic event was caused by extensive metal fatigue in the older aircraft. Astonishingly, despite the severity of the damage, the flight crew managed to perform an emergency landing at Kahului Airport on Maui, saving the lives of 94 out of the 95 passengers and crew on board.

Tragically, the explosive decompression led to the loss of a flight attendant, Clarabelle "C.B." Lansing, who was ejected from the aircraft. The remaining passengers and crew suffered various degrees of injuries, but most were non-life-threatening.

Don't like flying at the best of times but if I was on that plane I can assure you my pants would be full of shit 5 times over.
Fair play to the pilots for getting it back on the ground.

Ugh, I hope she was unconscious when she was ejected from the plane. That is nightmare material right there for being ejected unexpectedly from a plane and looking upward, seeing yourself falling away from it.

That was a tough lesson in corrosion, salt damage and poor inspections. Remember this like yesterday. Pilots should be payed like surgeons.

Re: Picture From Aloha Airlines Flight 243

Chalk Airlines had a wing failure on a Grumman Mallard, due to poor maintenance, and corrosion.

Good thing they got the door open, I have no idea how else they would have gotten out.

Re: Picture From Aloha Airlines Flight 243

I've watching lots of these Air Crash Investigation and Mayday documentaries..Some of these pilots are incredible bringing doomed aircraft with crew and passengers back to ground and safety.
