PHI Bell 407 N451PH Crash Near Abbeville, LA
A PHI Aviation LLC Bell 407, registration N451PH, was substantially damaged in a crash near Abbeville, LA, on May 23, 2023. No one was injured. The crash was caused by the pilot's failure to maintain proper helicopter control during autorotation, which led to abnormal ground contact. The main rotor then struck the tail boom and severed the tail rotor driveshaft. A contributing factor was a main rotor blowback condition caused by aft tilting of the main rotor disk.  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·
