Pegasus Flight PC2193 Skids Off Runway, Breaks into Pieces
A Pegasus Airlines flight, operating as a low-cost carrier, ended in tragedy on Wednesday when it overshot the runway during an attempted landing at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport amidst adverse weather conditions. The Boeing 737 aircraft, arriving from Izmir, Turkey, veered off the runway, plunged into a nearby field, and broke into fragments. The catastrophic incident has resulted in three fatalities and left dozens injured. Flight PC2193, carrying 183 passengers and crew, struggled to maintain control during landing at approximately 6:30 p.m. local time. Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya reported that the aircraft, unable to secure its position on the runway, skidded off and descended nearly 100 feet into a ditch, breaking into several pieces. Health Minister Fahrettin Koca confirmed that three people had lost their lives and 179 were receiving medical care across multiple hospitals. The aircraft, a Boeing 737 and 11 years old according to Flightradar24, was part of Pegasus Airlines' fleet. Pegasus, a Turkish airline known for its affordable flights primarily within Turkey and to various destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia, expressed its condolences to the families and friends of those affected by the crash. |
