Military Helicopter Crashes in Colombia During Joint Task Force Titan
On March 19, 2023, a tragic incident unfolded in the city of Quibdó, the capital of western Chocó department in Colombia, as a Colombian Army Bell UH-1N “Huey” helicopter crashed during a supply mission. The helicopter, bearing the registration EJC4227, was on a mission to resupply Colombian armed forces in the region of Choco and was part of the Joint Task Force “Titan” engaged in operations around the Baudo River. Unfortunately, all four crew members aboard the helicopter lost their lives in this accident. Witnesses recorded several videos showing the helicopter entering an uncontrolled spin before crashing in a wooded area near Quibdó. Among the crew was Colombia’s first female Huey pilot, a significant and tragic loss for the country's armed forces. Fortunately, there were no ground casualties reported in the settlement near the crash site. The deceased were identified as Héctor Jerez, Julieth García, Johan Orozco, and Rubén Leguizamón, all members of the army. President Petro expressed his condolences, and Chocó Governor Farlin Perea Rentería conveyed a message of solidarity to the families and friends of the soldiers. |
