Mil Mi-8 Military Transport Helicopter Emergency Landing on Highway
On Wednesday, a russian Aerospace Forces Mil Mi-8 military transport helicopter was forced to make a hard touchdown directly on the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk–Dolinsk highway after reportedly suffering a total loss of engine power due to complete fuel exhaustion. In an effort to avoid hitting civilian vehicles driving along the roadway, the crew deliberately veered toward the shoulder during the final seconds of the autorotation landing. The helicopter clipped nearby trees and road barriers, causing the tail rotor blades to shatter and heavily damaging the tail boom assembly as it rolled onto its side in the ditch Miraculously, all eight people on board—including three crew members, an election commission representative, and four local journalists—survived the crash with only minor cuts and bruises. No motorists on the highway were injured. |

Russian Military Helicopter Runs Out of Fuel Russian military Mi-8 helicopter made an emergency landing after both engines shut down due to completely running out of fuel. Russia now apparently has a shortage of not only gasoline, but kerosene too. |
