Mexican State Security Chief is Among the Five Dead in Helicopter Crash
Tragedy struck in the central Mexican state of Aguascalientes as a helicopter crash claimed the lives of five individuals, including the state security chief, as confirmed by the state's governor. During a press conference, Aguascalientes Governor Teresa Jiménez expressed deep condolences for the loss, stating, "We deeply regret the death of these five men," while extending her sympathies to the grieving families. The ill-fated Eagle 1 helicopter, belonging to Aguascalientes state's secretariat of public security, carried Porfirio Sánchez Mendoza, the security chief of Aguascalientes, along with four other occupants, including the pilot, a captain, and two gunners, according to Governor Jiménez. Although investigations into the precise cause of the incident have commenced, Jiménez indicated that initial findings suggest it was an accident. She pledged to provide further details once the investigation is concluded. Governor Jiménez also commended the pilot's "heroic" actions, noting that the helicopter was crash-landed in an empty lot instead of a populated area. Images from the crash scene depicted the wreckage of the helicopter amid a grassy area, with police vehicles in the vicinity. |
