Marine Helicopter Crashes into the Sea in Baja California
In El Golfo de Santa Clara, an unexpected incident unfolded as a MI-17 marine helicopter plunged into the sea waters near the Port of San Felipe, Baja California. The helicopter was engaged in maneuvers aimed at persuading local fishermen to return to the shore and cease their illegal fishing activities. This incident occurred at approximately 3:09 pm on a Saturday afternoon when the pilot of the helicopter executed daring maneuvers to intimidate the fishermen, hoping they would leave the water. Initial reports indicate that several soldiers on board the helicopter sustained injuries. Remarkably, the very same unlicensed fishermen who were in violation of federal environmental regulations stepped up to assist the injured soldiers, providing transportation back to the shore using their boats. Dozens of fishermen have ventured out to fish in order to provide for their families, albeit without the necessary permits. The helicopter, stationed at a San Felipe Navy Base, flew at a low altitude as part of its strategy to deter the fishermen. As the helicopter descended into the water, the fishermen took swift action to rescue the wounded soldiers. Among the injuries reported were one individual rendered unconscious, another with a broken leg, and a third with a head injury. All injured parties were promptly transported to the village's public clinic for medical attention. (Note: There are conflicting reports regarding the status of two individuals who may still be missing.) |
