Lufthansa Flight LH-426 Catches Fire After Tow Truck Explodes
On June 11, 2018, a Lufthansa Airbus A340-300, registered as D-AIFA and operating as Flight LH-426, was involved in an incident at Frankfurt Airport. The aircraft was being towed to the departure gate when the tow truck caught fire. This fire subsequently spread to the aircraft. Despite this alarming situation, the damage to the aircraft was initially reported as minor. However, there were rumors suggesting that the aircraft might have sustained more significant damage than initially assessed, potentially affecting the forward fuselage and the electronics bay. These rumors hinted at the possibility that the aircraft could be written off, but this information was not confirmed at the time. During this incident, six people were treated for various injuries. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported. The flight, destined for Philadelphia, was subsequently operated by a replacement aircraft, another A340.
