Lightning Strikes British Airways Flight BA857 Above London
In April 2016, a dramatic event occurred over London when a British Airways flight, BA857, was struck by lightning while approaching Heathrow Airport. The incident was captured on camera by a British man, Aled Rhys Jones, who filmed the stormy weather. Despite the strike, the plane, which had departed from Prague, landed safely at Heathrow. British Airways confirmed the plane was struck but reassured that it was designed to withstand such incidents and was not damaged. Passengers on at least two other flights reported similar experiences with lightning strikes that evening.
